It is very common that when we talk about programmers or developers, they are those who are extremely smart, neck-bearded nerds and has at least four monitor at home. They are those who don’t speak much unless asked or if it’s about RPG.

But let’s not judge them because they are showing intellectual proficiency than us. Instead let us see them as an inspiration on how they can change the world we live in.

Here are some of the notable programmers who have drastically change the way we see  the world:

William Henry Gates (Bill Gates) – at a very young age, he already have interest with computers. Bill and his friend, Paul Allen were very much interested to create their own computer after seeing Altair 8800 in 1994. The two wanted to create a computer a programming language and later created a software called DOS (Disk Operating System). This software can perform calculations and seen on monitors for IBM which started the idea of MICROSOFT.  Popularly known as an Operating System used in all PCs all over the world. Today, Bill Gates is the richest man in the world with an estimated net worth of $90.2 Billion.

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg – at 12, Mark already showed interests in computers. His father, Edward Zuckeberg taught him Atari Basic and later on asked David Newman to teach his son Computer Science. In his sophomore year in Harvard, Mark already created a website called www.thefacebook.com which he changed to www.facebook.com which made Harvard students connect with friends as well as know which classes they have taken.

Today, it’s the number one Social Networking Site all over the world.

Jan Koum and Brian Action – when Facebook is getting its popularity in 2009, Brian, a former employee from Yahoo decided to try his luck with Facebook. Unfortunately, he was rejected during the interview. Just like anyone else, Brian vented on Twitter his frustrations: ““ Facebook turned me down. It was a great opportunity to connect with some fantastic people. Looking forward to life’s next big adventure.”

Late on, he and his friend, Jan Koum decided to create an Instant Messaging App came the birth of WhatsApp. But what’s interesting? The company who rejected Brian bought his creation for $19 Billion.

Kevin Systrom – on the contrary, Kevin is not an IT guy. He was actually a Record Store owner who has passion for photography combined with technology. Despite his eagerness to take Computer Science, he landed a course in finance and economics instead.

Unlike Zuckerberg, who focus on creating online games for his friends, Systrom built photo site along with his fraternity brothers so they can share party pictures internally. That’s when he realized he’s into photography. Later on, he added filtering features on his Mobile App that can upload and edit images and videos. Today, it’s not just a mobile but a platform which is very famous to everyone especially celebrities.

But the end of the day, Facebook has leverage and bought INSTAGRAM for $1 Billion.

Nick D’ aloisio – born in London with a huge interest in Computer Science during childhood taught himself how to program computer at  very young age. It was the time when App store was released for iPhones. He thought that this would be an opportunity for him and went to App store to ask who could teach him how to code iOS applications but unfortunately none of them know how.

Self learning, he was able to use Objective C and developed an App called TRIMIT. It’s an analytical tool to condense text content into 1000, 500 and 140- character summary text. In 2012, he received a $1 Million from various celebrities to re-design Trimit to SUMMLY, a web platform and smartphone app that provides algorithmically-generated summaries from thousands of sources.
